The name and vision of our little piece of heaven, Eingedi Retreat, was birthed at a place in the wilderness next to the Dead Sea, in Israel. Tucked away amidst the rugged terrain of the Judean Desert, we very unexpectedly came across a little valley filled with the wonders of creation: a symphony of cascading waterfalls running with fresh, sweet, living water, lush greenery, and diverse wildlife.

It was in the shelter of the surrounding caves of Eingedi, that the future King David of Bible times, sought refuge from King Saul’s murderous endeavours to end his life. Both Ps. 57 and 63 were written here.

The present-day well-worn trail, takes the visitor to the waterfall at the top of the valley, from where he/she looks down at the large, sparkling-blue lake called the Dead Sea, which beckons the weary traveller to come and enjoy, and taste of it. Once the realisation of the saltiness and bitterness of its inviting waters sinks in, the wanderer clearly understands the significance and meaning of its name.

In contrast, this little valley of living water and abundant life, is hidden away, and can only be discovered, if you stop the car, and start walking to find it. The spiritual meaning of Eingedi, being a symbol of provision, beauty and uniqueness, further highlights the significance of the largest oasis in Israel. The heart of Eingedi Retreat is definitely rooted deeply in biblical principles.
