Eingedi’s beautiful outdoors can be enjoyed with different experiences, in different ways & places on the farm.

Picnic Areas:
There are numerous spots on the farm that are ideal for picnics. Please read our suggestions below, and come chat with us. We would love to share them with you. (Braais/BBQs & fires may only be lit in demarcated places in the Eingedi Valley where the infrastructure is. See ‘Braai’)
We would suggest that you take your picnic basket with snacks, coffee or wine, to one of the following locations:
- The Lapa at the pool while enjoying a swim. (See ‘Swimming’)
- Various dams while paddling or fishing.
- The plains while watching the antelope herds galloping, and the Ostrich sprinting.
We have demarcated ‘Coffee Tree 1’, ‘Coffee Tree 2’ & ‘Coffee Tree 3’ as ideal picnic spots. (See ‘Greater Eingedi Map’; ‘Eingedi Valley Map‘)
- Shama Dam on Dorcas Walk, a 10-minute walk from the chalets, is a beautiful setting, with a picnic table and benches, a rustic Lapa and very unique toilet. Wildlife is often spotted nearby. The sunsets from here are spectacular! This small dam also has a paddle ski available for paddling, and is our bass fishing ‘catch & release’ dam. (See ‘Dorcas Walk’)
- On the way to Shama Dam, you will pass 2 signposts pointing you to 2 benches.
*Gilead Garden Bench is situated in a beautiful quiet natural forest we have called ‘Gilead Garden’, because of the natural peace and healing that flows over your soul while feeling the cool breeze, hearing the birds sing, and listening to the rustle of the leaves. A good spot for a quiet, ‘alone-time’ picnic, and a good book or your journal.
*Treetops Bench is literally situated above the treetops of Gilead Garden. The views across the valley, into Lesotho, as well as the sunsets, are something to behold. A lovely little romantic spot for coffee or wine with snacks.
- Sunrise Dam – Carp and Barbel fishing, and boats.
- Remember to pack your hot water flask for coffee and load shedding.
- We could even prepare and pack a healthy picnic basket for you. Enquire at Reception.

Dams - Recreational Fishing & Paddle Boats:
At no additional cost, we have a small boat, a paddle ski, canoe and surf ski available for the enjoyment of our guests. Fishing is also included in the accommodation and day visitor fee. Our dams, which are on the small side, are ideal for recreational fishing.
Please provide your own tackle & make arrangements at Reception before embarking on a fishing trip.
- Sunrise Dam next to Isaac’s Dam, behind Shalom Chalet, has a small rowing boat for a family with small children, as well as a canoe and surf ski for older children. The paddles are available at the dam. This is stocked with Carp and Barbel, which you are welcome to keep. Bring your picnic blanket and basket, and enjoy a few hours in the outdoors.
- Shama Dam – a small catch-and-release bass dam. Ideal for a day’s outing with picnic site and toilet.
It has a paddle ski available for use.
